As seen with the nonsense that has taken place surrounding the boys at the pro-life march and the Native American Indian, it’s become apparent that some individuals and the media are more than capable of swaying a narrative to suit their needs, in fact they enjoy it. As a nation of supposedly kind and tolerant people, it is our duty to demand that those individuals take responsibility for their part in tearing down those they do not agree with by perpetrating a scenario that is less than accurate. As viewers of this constant loop of misinformation, we must not let our passion for a topic cloud our judgement. If the media outlets and social media platforms have lost control of their oaths to uphold integrity, then we are obligated to pick up the slack. As smart and caring individuals we must explore and investigate before shaming and sharing things which we truly have no tie to other than what was handed to us by those working overtime for the constant division and labeling of us all.
We are all Americans, the boy with the MAGA hat, the Indian beating his drum, the Muslim with the Hijab and the Catholic with the crucifix; the African American, the White man, the Asian woman and, frankly I don’t need to know your sexual preference, it’s not my business; just be you. WE are allowing the media and the politicians to dictate what we see, believe and accept. They are very slowly taking away our inner voice of reason, tolerance and judgement. THEY are constantly pointing out our differences and in essence promoting judgement based on our individuality. If they truly want equality and acceptance based on our inner being, then stop keeping our differences at the forefront of every single story. They are telling us to stop judging based on race and ethnicity, yet every time we walk hand in hand they jump to point out the flaws of the civility.
It’s time we wake up and take back our own thoughts and demand respect and integrity. I am not blind to our differences and I should not have to be; I’m proud of who I am and you all should be proud of who you are… Your race, your religion, your ethnicity, your political and personal choices. We are a melting pot of people and ideas – that is our core and we are letting it be ripped apart by this constant barrage of the anti-human-decency-campaign agenda targeting every aspect of the differences they claim we need to be tolerant of, for example (just to name a few):
religion – suddenly we are asking those being confirmed to a political post about their Catholic or Christian’ beliefs? Insinuating that there is a problem with that particular affiliation in contrast to another? I’m sorry but I thought we had freedom of religion here, or is that only if you are a certain religion? When did this turn of events happen? And why is this okay with anyone?
politics – according to the media, one side is completely evil and devoid of conscience and the other side is akin to a god and incapable of an impure thought. That of course is ludicrous, and if we keep approaching government in that way, there will never be a bi-partisan compromise and America will fail. Most importantly, Americans themselves will fail.
I’m a lover of vocabulary, here’s an oldie but a goodie: Propaganda – information that is not objective and is used primarily to influence an audience and further an agenda, often by presenting facts selectively to encourage a particular synthesis or perception, or using loaded language to produce an emotional rather than a rational response to the information that is presented. Propaganda is often associated with material prepared by governments, activist groups, companies, religious organizations and the media.
Once upon a time, we celebrated freedom of speech, religion, choice and thoughts. Do not let easy access to misinformation replace old fashion common sense and research. Videos and photographs can be altered by a 4th grader in today’s day and age, and anyone can make a claim on the internet and label it true. It’s time we become more diligent in our quest for truth and liberty for ALL.
Media Outlets and Social Media Platforms, STOP. The downward slide has taken on a momentum that is completely out of control. Why would this be your end game? Why do we have to be subjected to constant negativity, angry posts and reports dripping with disdain rather than simple facts of important issues. I would think the goal would be to unite, not rip us further apart. Take heed, I believe this last atrocity with Covington Catholic has opened up eyes to your games and manipulations on both sides of the aisle. Your audience is no longer captivated and your machinations have worn out their welcome.
